If you are asked for a Utah certificate of good standing, the document you want has a different name. The Division of Corporations and Commercial Code issues the Certificate of Existence. The Utah office guide explains the division. Our general guide to the certificate of good standing covers the idea in all states.
The regular certificate costs $12. It is the most common type ordered, and it is emailed to you after online payment.
Regular and long form
The regular Certificate of Existence is a one page document. It shows that the entity exists and gives its status. Most banks and registrars accept that version.
The long form costs $20. It shows the same two facts and adds a list of filed documents. The list includes amendments, conversions, domestications and mergers. Order the long form when the person asking wants the filing history, not just the status.

How to order the regular certificate
- Log into the Business Registration System. If you have no UtahID, the system asks you to create one.
- Choose Copies and Certificates from the left menu.
- Select Request Certificate of Existence.
- Pay. The system then emails the certificate automatically.
How to order the long form
The long form goes through the order form. Mark the Certificate of Existence option and say whether you want the short or long version. Then send it in one of three ways.
- Mail it to the Division of Corporations with a $20 check.
- Drop it off at the front counter in Salt Lake City.
- Email it, and the division sends a link to pay online.
Do not put payment details in an email or on a fax. The division says that order will be rejected. Once payment is received, the certificate is mailed.
What stops a company getting one
Status decides it. The division sells a Certificate of Existence to entities that are Current or Delinquent. It will not sell one for an entity that is dissolved, expired, revoked or cancelled.
Delinquent means the entity missed its renewal. A delinquent status is fixed by renewing online, and the annual renewal for an LLC is $18 on the fee schedule. For an expired LLC the fix is a reinstatement filing, which is $54 plus $18 for each year missed and a $10 delinquency fee. Our annual report guide explains why a renewal matters.
Speed and add-ons
Expedite is an additional $75 per document, with processing of up to 2 business days. The division also says that orders of this kind generally take 3 to 10 working days. All fees are non-refundable.
If the certificate will be used overseas, it may need an apostille from the Lieutenant Governor. Our Utah apostille guide covers that step.
Our private filing service can order the certificate for you. State fees are separate, and you can order from the division yourself.
