An apostille in Utah is not a Division of Corporations job. The Office of the Lieutenant Governor issues it, and it does so at the Capitol in Salt Lake City. Company records sit with the division, as the Utah office guide explains. Our apostille guide covers the general idea.
Fees are $5 by mail and $20 for same day service in person. Which one you pay depends on how you submit.
Utah's one certificate
Utah does not have separate paths for Hague and non-Hague countries. It issues one universal certificate for legalized documents, whatever the destination. For a Hague Apostille Convention country, the certificate is an apostille. For any other country it works as a standard Certificate of Authentication.
The state says the receiving country must accept the unaltered document. A properly issued certificate can only be refused if the document itself was changed or tampered with. You can check any Utah authentication on the office's online verification portal.

Fees in detail
The fee table has these lines.
- In person, same day: $20 per document.
- Mail-in paper document, not same day: $5 per document.
- Electronic document: $5 per document.
- Adoption document: $5 per document.
- Intergovernmental authentication, paper or electronic: $20 per document.
A same signer discount applies when two or more documents were signed by the same public official or notary. The first costs $20 and each extra costs $5. You pay when the document is processed, by card, check or money order made out to the State of Utah. Cash is taken in person only.
Ways to submit
In person. Book an appointment first. With a booking, you can collect the document within 15 minutes to 2 hours of your time slot.
By mail. Send payment, the completed authentication request form, the original document and a self-addressed envelope. Use the courier address at 350 North State Street, Suite 220, if you ship with FedEx or UPS. USPS mail goes to the PO box. The office warns that all USPS mail is delayed by state mail processing. Your returned document goes back by mail, and without a prepaid label it goes first class with no tracking.
Digital. You can ask for a digital authentication, which is emailed right after processing and can be shared many times. A contracted vendor charges $69.95 on top of the state fee for this. Paper apostilles carry no such charge. The state cannot issue digital authentication for vital records such as birth or death certificates.
What to do first
Start with the right document. For a company paper, order a Certificate of Existence from the Division of Corporations. Our Utah good standing guide shows how. Then send that paper to the Lieutenant Governor. A document that comes from a third party may take longer, since the office cannot account for the other party's schedule.
Our private filing service can handle the submission for you. State fees are separate, and you can send your documents to the Lieutenant Governor yourself.
