A private guide, not a government website
SecretaryOfStateSearch.org is a private independent guide. It is not a government website and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any Secretary of State, state agency or the federal government. Official records, searches and filings are only available on each state's own website, which we link.
Information on the site
We take every fee, deadline, rule and contact detail from official state sources and show the source and the date we checked it. States can change any of it at any time, and we may not have caught a change yet. Check the official source before you file or pay. The site is general information, not legal, tax or financial advice, and using it does not create a lawyer and client relationship.
A company name that does not show up in a search is not reserved and may still be refused. Only the state decides when it accepts a filing.
The filing service
Filing help offered on this site is a private paid service. It is separate from every state office. We tell you our price in writing before any work, and state fees are always separate and paid to the state. You can always make the same filing yourself, directly with the state. Further terms for a specific job are agreed with you by email before it starts.
Using the site
Do not use the site or its forms to send spam, harmful code or false requests, and do not copy the site's content in bulk. You may quote short parts with a link back.
Links
We link to state websites and sometimes to other public pages. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or availability.
Liability
We work hard to keep the guide accurate, but we provide it as is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses from relying on it, including missed deadlines or rejected filings. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the law that cannot be limited.
