Utah handles UCC filings through its Division of Corporations and Commercial Code, part of the Department of Commerce. The state has no Secretary of State filing office, so this is the office you want. The Utah office guide explains where it fits.
A UCC-1 costs $12 per page, and the work is done online. For the basics of searching, see our UCC search guide, and for how a filing works, see the UCC-1 filing guide.
What the Utah division holds
The division describes itself as the central filing office for financing statements and other documents under the Uniform Commercial Code. A UCC-1 is the paper a creditor files to put a security interest in a debtor's personal property on the public record. It tells other creditors about the lien and sets priority among them.
The same online system also accepts Central Filing System documents, so one login covers both kinds of filing.

How to search and order copies
Searches and copies run through the UCC registry at the division's UCC site. You sign in with a UtahID. If you have no account, the division gives instructions for creating one, and a separate guide for adding secondary users.
For copies of filings you file a UCC-11 information request online. The division has a user guide on how to complete it. The fee schedule lists a lien search at $12. A certified copy of a document costs $12.00 for the certified stamp plus $.30 a page.
A UCC filing keeps showing as active even after a termination, because the record has to stay searchable. The filing history tells you what happened, and you get it with a UCC 11.
How to file a UCC-1
- Create a UtahID if you do not have one.
- Log in to the UCC and CFS self-service site.
- Click UCC Filings on your dashboard and complete the financing statement.
- Pay $12 for each page.
- Keep the confirmation.
Forms exist for the UCC-1, its addenda, the UCC-3 amendment, the UCC-5 and the UCC-11, but the division says forms may not be handwritten.
Fees in one place
A UCC-1 is $12 per page, and the fee schedule bills an addendum per page too. Terminations and UCC 5 information statements are free. A lien search is $12. The division also lists an expedited processing fee of $75 per filing on its general schedule.
How long a filing lasts
A standard filing is good for 5 years. Manufactured home and public finance transactions last 30 years. A transmitting utility filing has no lapse date. The current through date for filings appears on the search site.
What the division does not file
Car title liens go to the Division of Motor Vehicles. Real estate liens go to the county recorder's office where the property is located. If your lien is on land or a vehicle title, a UCC-1 at the division is not the right step.
Our private filing service can prepare a UCC filing. State fees are separate, and you can file with the Division of Corporations yourself.
