In Idaho the Secretary of State is the central filing office for UCC liens. The work belongs to the UCC Division, and its online home is SOSBiz. The one number to remember is $3. That is what an uncertified search costs.

Most people land here for one of two jobs: finding out whether a lender has a lien on a business, or filing a lien of their own. Both are done on the same site. The wider office is covered in the Idaho office guide, and the national picture is in our UCC search guide.

How do you search Idaho UCC records?

Use the UCC and lien search on SOSBiz. It is the Secretary of State's own database, and it covers financing statements, farm product filings and other liens that the office files.

An uncertified search is quick, and it costs $3. Some users are exempt from fees, but they have to be logged in to their account for the charge to be waived. If you need a certified search, for a court or a lender who insists on one, you use the copy request page instead of the plain search.

What does an Idaho UCC search show?

A financing statement records a loan where the borrower pledges collateral. The search lists the debtor, the secured party, the filing number and later amendments. The letter at the start of a filing number tells you its type. A B means an ordinary UCC financing statement or amendment, F a farm products statement, T a state lien, I an IRS lien and N a medical lien filed by a county.

The office also posts a processed-through date for UCC filings. Look at it if the filing you expect is not showing yet, because a new document may still be in the queue.

How much does it cost to file a UCC-1 in Idaho?

The fee depends on how you file and how long the form is. For one or two pages:

  • Online filing is $3.00.
  • Print and mail is $6.00.
  • A fillable PDF form is $26.00.

For three or more pages the figures are $3.00, $12.00 and $32.00. So the online route is both the cheapest and the fastest. Our UCC-1 filing guide explains what goes on the form.

Can you file online, and what are the limits?

You can, at SOSBiz. Only UCC1 financing statements and UCC3 amendments can be filed online, and you cannot add attachments. A filing that needs one has to go in by mail, with the form and payment sent to the office.

Paper has its own cost. A paper form usually brings an extra $20 manual processing fee, and the office rejects forms that arrive without it. If you have to use paper, put the fee in at the start.

Where do paper filings go?

Mail them to the Idaho Secretary of State, Attn: UCC Division, PO Box 83720, Boise, ID 83720-0080. You can also take them to the office at 450 N 4th Street in Boise. The phone number for the Business Services Division is (208) 334-2301.

A note on what each filing needs

Mind the debtor's name. It has to match the record the state holds, and a mistake can weaken the filing.

If you would like help, you can ask our private filing service. State fees are separate, and you can search and file with the state yourself.
