Hawaii good standing

Hawaii has no Secretary of State. The Business Registration Division of the DCCA issues the Good Standing Certificate, which it also calls a Certificate of Compliance. The fee page lists it at $5.

Good Standing Certificate

If you need a good standing certificate for a Hawaii company, the office to ask is the Business Registration Division, known as BREG, inside the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. The state has no Secretary of State, so there is no such office to search for. The paper you want is called a Good Standing Certificate, and BREG also uses the name Certificate of Compliance for it.

For searching records, fees and contacts, see the Hawaii office guide. This page covers the certificate and how to order it.

What the Hawaii certificate costs

BREG's fee page lists the Good Standing Certificate at $5. With expedited review the same line shows $10. The page that carries this line is the schedule for corporations, so the amount for an LLC may be shown again when you order. The price on the order screen is the one to trust.

Expedited review is a separate question right now. BREG began using a new portal in July 2026, and its home page said expedited handling was not available at that time. If you are in a hurry, call before you pay extra for it.

How to order it online

Hawaii sells its records from the record itself, so you start with a search.

  1. Open the DCCA business portal and search by the company's exact name.
  2. Open the record you want.
  3. Go to the last tab, named Buy Available Docs.
  4. Choose the Good Standing Certificate and pay.

The FAQ still mentions the older Hawaii Business Express name for the site. If an old link redirects you, that is why. The new portal replaced it.

Other ways to ask

You can also request a certificate by phone, email, mail, fax or in person. The office says payment must come with every request. For email and fax requests, send credit card details or use the division's credit card form. Checks go to the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, with the mailing address on the fee page.

Calling is the safest route for a rush. The number is 1-844-808-DCCA (3222), and you press option 2.

Copies and other records

The same Buy Available Docs tab sells copies and certified copies of filed documents. A lender who wants the articles as well as the certificate can get both from one record. The price of each item shows on screen before you pay.

What to check before you order

BREG does not publish a list of status words for the certificate, so the best check is the record itself. Look at the annual report first, because that is the filing most companies miss. Each entity must file by the end of the quarter it registered in, and the online fee for an LLC or corporation is $12.50. A late fee of $10 per year delinquent applies.

Foreign LLCs have their own rule. An LLC from another state that registers in Hawaii needs a good standing certificate from its home state. The home state's certificate comes from that state, not from BREG.

If you would like help with the order, you can ask our private filing service. State fees are separate, and you can order at the state yourself.
